As UAE is set to reach a 50th Anniversary Landmark, Expo 2020 is commemorating the UAE’s special occasion with a special set of activities and festivities that look at the nation’s journey since 1971. The UAE’s Golden Jubilee Celebration started on November 3 and will run for a month till December 4.
The Site-wide celebration will include craftsmanship and connection, heritage and wisdom of the past generations to present, vision, and dreams.
UAE’s Pavilion
Located in Al Forsan Zone, next to Al Wasl Plaza, the falcon-in-flight building is hard to miss. The Pavilion will take you to Journey UAE’s Transformation from its origins to its thriving present and its visionary future.
The UAE four-storey Pavilion was informed “by a falcon in flight” and is shielded by a massive locally produced carbon wingspan comprising 28 wings that can be closed to shelter the roof of solar panels. Each of the wings pivots around a single point and the entire roof can be opened in three minutes. So important is this bird of prey that it even dominates the national emblem of the UAE.
MENASA – Emirati crafts
MENASA – Emirati Design Platform is your one-stop source for a cultural shopping spree and the core element of the Expo 2020 arts and culture program. Located next to Al Wasl plaza at the ground level of Rove Expo 2020 hotel.
Menasa will showcase Craft Stories, a series of a diverse collection that tells the story of UAE through the crafts and tradition including safeefa (palm frond weaving), talli (embroidery), sadu (bedouin weaving), gargour making (wire-crafted fish traps), pearl diving and coffee making.
Vision Pavilion
The Vision Pavilion in the Sustainability District will leave you emotional, surprised and inspired with traces of Dubai’s past, present, and future. Take a journey through the nation’s memory lane. There is even a 52-ton marble Statue of a legendary horse that comes to life with realistic light projections.
Al Meghzal
Embark on Al Meghzal: Journey of a Thread, a musical show staged for a limited time at the Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre. The 15-minute live entertainment narrates craft stories from the UAE. Catch the show on November 23 and 26; then on December 2.
